Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the broad treatment of Calystegia catesbeiana which includes the subspecies sericata, as recognized in FNA (2023, vol. 14) and Kartesz (1994). Kartesz (1999) recognizes the same species concept but does not accept ssp. sericata as distinct from the typical. Weakley et al. (2024) recognize the subspecies as a distinct species and places both in the genus Convolvulus (as Convolvulus catesbyanus and C. sericatus) . The epithet is spelled 'catesbeiana' in Kartesz (1999) and FNA and has also been spelled 'catesbiana' (e.g., by Kartesz, 1994). According to Weakley et al. (2024), the epithet spelling requires correction from the spelling of Pursh (catesbeiana) to 'catesbyanus.' (with the -us ending for placement in the genus Convolvulus). Clewell (1985) in his "Guide" (Florida) lists it incorrectly as "C. spithamaea" according to Austin (1992).
