Rank Reasons
Chylismiella pterosperma occurs in the Great Basin of the western United States, it is uncommon in eastern California, infrequently but scattered throughout Nevada, and extends into northwestern Arizona, Utah, Idaho and southeastern Oregon. There are between 81 and 300 occurrences, and threat impacts are likely medium, and may include mining and quarrying, recreation impacts from ORVs, and long-term and extreme drought, such as may be exacerbated by climate change. It occurs on BLM, USDA Forest Service, and National Park Service lands.
Range Extent Comments
Chylismiella pterosperma occurs in the Great Basin of the western United States, in eastern California, in the White, Inyo, Panamint and San Bernardino Mountains in Inyo, Mono, and San Bernardino counties, across Nevada, southeast Oregon (Lake and Malheur counties), southern Idaho (Butte County), Utah, and northwest Arizona (Coconino and Mohave counties), the range extent was estimated to be 0.5 million square kilometers, using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 1992 and 2023 (Flora of North America Editorial Committee 2021, GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, SEINet 2023, Wagner and Hoch 2012).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records and photo-based observations of Chylismiella pterosperma documented between 1992 and 2023, it is estimated that there are between 81 and 300 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, SEINet 2023).
Threat Impact Comments
Threat impacts to Chylismiella pterosperma are likely medium, and may include mining and quarrying, recreation impacts from ORVs, and long-term and extreme drought, such as may be exacerbated by climate change.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This species occurs on well-drained slopes, often of volcanic origin, with sagebrush and pinyon-juniper, at elevations of 700 to 2600 m, but at 1400 to 2400 m elevation in California (Flora of North America Editorial Committee 2021, Wagner and Hoch 2012).
