Taxonomic Comments
This record is for Deschampsia cespitosa as recognized by Barkworth in FNA (2007, vol. 24), including Deschampsia holcifornis (= D. cespitosa ssp. holcifornis) and D. beringensis (= D. cespitosa ssp. beringensis) as subspecies, recognizing three subspecies in total (holcifornis, beringensis, and cespitosa). Subspecies cespitosa includes D. cespitosa ssp. parviflora and plants called D. cespitosa var. glauca (Hartm.) Lindm., an illegitimate name. Barkworth in FNA (2007) recognizes D. mackenzieana as a distinct species (reported only for the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan), while Kartesz (1999) includes it in D. caespitosa (= D. cespitosa).
