This record is for Matelea decipiens as recognized by Fishbein and McDonnell in FNA (2023, vol. 14) and Weakley et al. (2025). It includes only populations west of the Mississippi, with those to the east, which have been considered conspecific with M. dicipiens, to belong to M. carolinensis.
