FNA (vol. 7, 2010) includes Salix lucida ssp. lasiandra (= S. lasiandra var. lasiandra) and S. lucida ssp. caudata (= S. lasiandra var. caudata) in S. lasiandra, therefore according to FNA S. lucida ssp. lucida is equivalent to S. lucida.

This species is found on floodplains of gravel or sand, vernal pools, lake margins, sedge meadows, alvars, open fens, marl and/or treed bogs, at elevations ranging from 0 to 600 meters (Argus, 2020).
