Rank Reasons
Solidago patula is a wide-ranging perennial herb in a variety of open wetlands occurring in eastern North America from Ontario, Canada south to the United States from New Hampshire west to Wisconsin, Iowa, and Oklahoma south to Florida and Texas. There are over 700 occurrences that are potentially threatened by development, conversion to agriculture or silviculture, invasive species, hydrological alteration, and succession. Little is known about trends, but with a large range extent and large number of occurrences, abundant habitat, broad habitat preferences, and no obvious intrinsic vulnerabilities, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Solidago patula occurs in eastern North America from Ontario, Canada south to the United States from New Hampshire west to Wisconsin, Iowa, and Oklahoma south to Florida and Texas (FNA 2006). Range extent was estimated to be over 2.4 million square kilometers using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1994 and 2025 (GBIF 2025, iNaturalist 2025, NatureServe 2025, SEINet 2025).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1994 and 2025, it is estimated that there are over 700 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2025, iNaturalist 2025, NatureServe 2025, SEINet 2025).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, this taxon is potentially threatened by development, conversion to agriculture or silviculture, invasive species, hydrological alteration, succession, and other threats in some places. However, their overall impact is likely negligible given the taxon's broad range, large number of occurrences, and no obvious intrinsic vulnerabilities.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Solidago patula grows in moist soils, low wet ground, swamp margins, boggy ground, bogs, wet meadows, roadside ditches, streamhead pocosins, seeps, seepages over mafic rocks, sandhill seepages, edges of wet woods, grassy balds (FNA 2006, Weakley and the Southeastern Flora Team 2024).
