Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the narrow treatment of Gentianella amarella as recognized by Pringle in FNA (2023, vol. 14) which excludes G. heterosepala and G. wrightii as distinct species. Kartesz (1994) recognized both as subspecies of G. amarella, while Kartesz (1999) accepted G. wrightii as distinct, but included ssp. heterosepala. The only subspecies of G. amarella (in this narrow sense) reported for North America is ssp. acuta.

Rank Reasons
Gentianella amarella is a wide-ranging annual or biennial herb that occurs in temperate and arctic regions of North America and Eurasia.
Range Extent Comments
Gentianella amarella occurs throughout Canada and the western U.S. and Eurasia (FNA 2023). Range extent was estimated using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 2017 and 2023 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024)
Occurrences Comments
Based on herbaria collections and photo-based observations, there are well over 300 occurrences (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024).
