Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the narrow treatment of Dichanthelium mattamuskeetense, excluding D. annulum but including Panicum clutei, as recognized by LeBlond (2001) and Weakley et al. (2025). Barkworth's broader treatment of D. dichotomum ssp. mattamuskeetense in FNA (2003, vol. 25) includes Panicum annulum and P. clutei as synonyms. According to Weakley et al. (2025), D. mattamuskeetense occurs in the coastal plain from southeastern Massachusetts south to northeastern South Carolina while D. annulum is in New York, New Jersey, Indiana, and Missouri south to Alabama and Mississippi, primarily in the Appalachian Province with very few occurrences in the Coastal Plain.
