Taxonomic Comments
Included in Aristida stricta in most floristic works; recently, it has been suggested (Ward 2001) that the material might be treated as a variety within A. stricta (A. stricta var. beyrichiana). Kartesz (1999) and Weakley (2008, draft) consider A. beyrichiana to be a species distinct from A. stricta; their narrow-sense A. stricta occurs only in the Carolinas, while A. beyrichiana extends throughout the southeast.
