Taxonomic Comments
This treatment is the narrow concept of Sidalcea oregana recognized in Hill's treatment in FNA (2015, vol. 6) which excludes Sidalcea setosa as a distinct species. Previous treatments (Kartesz 1994 and 1999) included S. setosa as indistinct from S. oregana ssp. spicata.

Rank Reasons
Sidalcea oregana is a perennial herb that occurs in western North America from British Columbia and Montana south to Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. With a large range extent, more than 750 occurrences, this species is considered secure. See each subspecies for more information on their conservation status.
Range Extent Comments
Sidalcea oregana occurs in western North America from British Columbia and Montana south to Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. Range extent was estimated using herbarium records documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024). See each subspecies for additional information.
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records documented between 1993 and 2024, it is estimated that there are between 81 and 300 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2024, SEINet 2024).
