Rank Reasons
Lespedeza procumbens is a perennial forb found in woodlands and woodland borders. It occurs in eastern North America, in the eastern United States and southeastern Canada, from New Hampshire, Vermont and southern Ontario south to Florida, and west to southeastern Kansas, eastern Oklahoma and central Texas. There are over 900 occurrences, which face threats from loss of habitat as a result of residential development and urbanization. Little is known about trends, but with a large range extent and large number of occurrences, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Trailing Bushclover (Lespedeza procumbens) occurs in eastern North America, in the eastern United States, and southeastern Canada, from New Hampshire, Vermont and southern Ontario south to Florida, and west to southeastern Kansas, eastern Oklahoma and central Texas. Range extent was estimated to be 2.2 million square kilometers, using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2024).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024, it is estimated that there are more than 300 occurrences of Trailing Bushclover (Lespedeza procumbens) rangewide (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024).
Threat Impact Comments
Loss of habitat as a result of residential development and urbanization is a threat.
