Rank Reasons
Endemic to California, Limnanthes floccosa ssp. californica is an annual herb known from 21 occurrences in Butte County. Many of the occurrences are on private land and are threatened by urbanization, but other threats include agricultural land conversion, road construction, grazing, non-native plants, and vehicle activity.
Range Extent Comments
Limnanthes floccosa ssp. californica is endemic to California where it known only from Butte County, along the eastern side of the Sacramento Valley (CNDDB 2022, USFWS 2008, Skinner 1997).
Occurrences Comments
This taxon is known from 21 occurrences (CNDDB 2022, USFWS 2008).
Threat Impact Comments
This taxon is threatened by past and continued fragmentation of it's habitat. It is threatened by urbanization, road construction, grazing, non-native plants, vehicles, and agriculture (Skinner 1997). Almost 90% of the remaining populations of L. floccosa ssp. californica occur entirely or largely on private land and are subject to urban development, ag-land conversion, and highway widening or realignment (USFWS 1992).
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This species occurs in valley and foothill grasslands on mesic soils at elevations of 35 to 1,167 m (CNDDB 2021, USFWS 2008, Skinner 1997). It is associates with Limnanthes alba ssp. alba, L. douglasii var. rosea, and L. floccosa ssp. floccosa. It grows in three types of seasonal wetlands: ephemeral drainages, vernal pool depressions in ephemeral drainages, and occasionally around the edges of isolated vernal pools (USFWS 1992, 2008).
