Taxonomic CommentsSenecio cliffordii was first described in Welsh et al. (2003). It was included in Packera spellenbergii in Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2006). However, D. Trock, who authored the Packera treatment in Flora of North America visited populations of Senecio cliffordii in New Mexico in 2007 and "now doubts her placement of it as a synonym of Packera spellenbergii" (R. Sivinski, pers. comm., 2007 cited by New Mexico Rare Plant Technical Council). Senecio cliffordii and Packera spellenbergii are maintained as distinct species in the key in Yeatts et al. (2011). O'Kane (2022) transfers Senecio cliffordii to Packera cliffordii.
