Taxonomic Comments
This is the concept of Silene nuda following Meyers et al. (2020) which includes S. scaposa var. lobata but does not include Silene nuda ssp. insectivora, and has no infrataxa distinguished. In contrast, S. nuda as recognized by Kartesz (1994, 1999) included Silene nuda ssp. insectivora but did not include S. scaposa var. lobata. Kartesz (1994, 1999) recognized S. nuda with two subspecies (ssp. insectivora, ssp. nuda) and S. scaposa with two varieties (var. lobata, var. scaposa). Similarly, Flora of North America Editorial Committee (2005) recognized S. nuda and S. scaposa with the same concepts as Kartesz (1994, 1999) but with no infrataxa distinguished. The Holmgren et al. (2012) treatment is similar to the Meyers et al. (2020) treatment but does not deal with S. scaposa var. scaposa and S. nuda ssp. insectivora since they "apply to plants north and northwest of our area". Meyers et al. (2020) treat Silene insectivora (= S. nuda ssp. insectivora of Kartesz 1994, 1999) as S. pectinata.
