Taxonomic Comments
Recognized as a species by Kartesz (1994 checklist and 2/99 review draft). Welsh et al (Utah Flora 1993) list Viola utahensis as synonym of V. purpurea and state that V. purpurea "forms an integrading series with V. nuttallii, a portion of that variation forms the basis for the recognition of Viola utahensis, but most specimens can be assigned readily to one or the other of the species." (Quoted by Utah HP 2/94).
