Taxonomic CommentsFlora of North America Editorial Committee (2014, vol. 9) treats Potentilla breweri as a species, distinct from P. drummondii and P. bruceae. In contrast, Kartesz (1994) recognized P. breweri (including P. drummondii ssp. bruceae), and P. drummondii. Kartesz (1999) recognized P. drummondii with three subspecies: ssp. breweri, ssp. bruceae, and ssp. drummondii.

Range Extent CommentsPotentilla breweri is known from the Cascade Range in central Washington through Oregon, to the High Sierra Nevada in California where it is most common, and from disjunct populations in the Ruby and Snake ranges in Nevada (Baldwin et al. 2012, Flora of North America Editorial Committee 2014, W. Fertig, pers. comm., 2021). Reports from Utah are misidentifications (Flora of North America Editorial Committee 2014).
Occurrences CommentsThere are two extant occurrences in Washington (Fertig and Kleinknecht 2020, NatureServe 2021). The number of occurrences in Oregon, California, and Nevada is not known but based on herbarium collections is over 80 (CPNWH 2021, CCH 2021, SEINet 2021).
