Taxonomic Comments
Kartesz (1994) recognized Festuca idahoensis var. idahoensis and Festuca idahoensis var. roemeri within F. idahoensis. In 1999, Kartesz elevates these varieties to the full species, F. idahoensis and F. roemeri. This record is for the Kartesz 1999 narrower sense of Festuca idahoensis (= Kartesz's (1994) F. idahoensis var. idahoensis), which excludes roemeri material.

Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Festuca idahoensis grows in grasslands, open forests, and sagebrush meadows (FNA, 2007).

Reproduction

Seed dispersal in this species occurs within the immediate vicinity of the plant, suggesting that gravity is primary mechanism for dispersal (Zouhar, 2000). This species also produces tillers.
