Occurs in five counties each in Nevada, Idaho, and Oregon. Also in Utah. (Kartesz 2003 draft) Occurs in northeast Oregon (Wallowa Mts.), sw Idaho (Owyhee Mts.), and central and northeast Nevada (Santa Rosa, Independence, Jarbidge, East Humboldt, Ruby, White Pine, and Kawich mts.) (Cronquist et al. 1984; Hitchcock and Cronquist 1974). In the Intermountain West, it occurs from pinyon-juniper and mountain mahogany woodlands of middle elevation to rocky subalpine slopes and summits with Pinus alibicaulis, P. flexilis, and P. longaeva, 2000-3200 m elevation (Cronquist et al. 1984).

Habitat

Open, rocky slopes and summits with Artemisia, Cercocarpus, Symphoricarpos to pinyon-juniper and limber pine, 7,600-10,600 ft. (Kartesz, Flora of NV, 1988).
