Taxonomic Comments
In its treatment of Silene scouleri, FNA (vol. 5, 2005) does not distinguish infraspecific taxa below subspecies level, simply recognizing three subspecies: S. scouleri ssp. hallii, S. scouleri ssp. pringlei, and S. scouleri ssp. scouleri. In contrast, Kartesz (1994) recognized five varieties within S. scouleri ssp. pringlei (var. concolor, var. eglandulosa, var. grisea, var. leptophylla, var. pringlei), two varieties within S. scouleri ssp. scouleri (var. pacifica, and var. scouleri), and also recognized S. scouleri ssp. hallii (with no varieties).
