Rank Reasons
Jordan's Maidenhair Fern occurs in the western United States and northwestern Mexico, in the Coast Range and Sierra Nevada from southwestern Oregon to the mountains of southern California and northern Baja California. There are about 2000 occurrences documented from 1992 to 2023, but some occurrences are just a few plants. It is likely threatened by recreation impacts, such as from rock climbing and ORVs, and impacts from long-term or extreme drought, such as may be exacerbated by climate change. It occurs on many protected conservation lands in California.
Range Extent Comments
Jordan's Maidenhair Fern occurs in the western United States, and Baja California in northwestern Mexico. It occurs in the Coast Range and Sierra Nevada from southwestern Oregon to the mountains of southern California and northern Baja California. The range extent was estimated to be about 300,000 square kilometers, using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 1992 and 2023 (CCH2 Portal 2023, Flora of North America Editorial Committee 1993, GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023).
Occurrences Comments
Based on herbarium records and photo-based observations of Jordan's Maidenhair Fern documented between 1992 and 2023, there are about 2000 occurrences rangewide (CCH2 Portal 2023, GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023).
Threat Impact Comments
Threats to Jordan's Maidenhair Fern likely include recreation impacts, such as from rock climbing and ORVs, and impacts from long-term or extreme drought, such as may be exacerbated by climate change.
