Taxonomic CommentsStotler and Crandall-Stotler (2017) elevate Herbertus aduncus ssp. aduncus (= H. aduncus) and H. aduncus ssp. tenuis (= H. tenuis) to full species level. Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (1977) included H. hutchinsiae ssp. schusteri and H. aduncus ssp. schusteri in H. aduncus ssp. aduncus, while Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (2017) now place them in H. dicranus.

Range Extent CommentsThis species is usually considered restricted in North America to the Pacific Northwest, from Alaska to Oregon, but is reported by Jusl´en (2006: 415) to occur also in New York, Virginia, and North Carolina, as well as in Asia and the Himalayan region (Stotler and Crandall-Stotler, 2017).
