Taxonomic Comments
This is the broad concept of Juga plicifera that includes J. hemphilli, J. h. dallesensis and J. silicula. A systematic revision of the genus Juga found that almost all species previously considered valid were para- or polyphyletic grades of organization in shell morphology. Most species previously suggested to be putatively new were confirmed to be morphological variants of species already described (Strong and Whelan 2019, Strong et al. 2022). Based on this analysis, Strong and Whelan (2022) synonymize Juga hemphilli, J. hemphilli dallesensis, J. silicula and Indian Ford Juga (= J. hemphilli ssp 1 in this database) with J. plicifera.
