Taxonomic Comments
Hieracium greenii, an Appalachian plant, was named in honor of Traill Green; a western plant had previously been named H. greenei by Asa Gray in honor of E.L. Greene. In 1900, the name Hieracium traillii was proposed for the Appalachian entity and is the accepted name in the Flora of North America Treatment (2006a). There is uncertainty as to whether the spelling of the epithet is different enough to be considered a different name in the same genus.
