Diagnostic Characteristics

Perennial, disk 7-12 mm wide, principal leaves remotely toothed, plants tomentose, basal leaves 4.0 dm long or less, Achenes hirtellous along the angles.

Habitat

This species grows in shale barrens or shale woodlands on steep, south facing, open sites with thin soil with little or no other vegetation.

Ecology

Sensetive to excessive erosion. High light intensity and low levels of competition are required by this species.
