Taxonomic Comments
Flora of North America's (2007) Syntrichia ruralis is narrower than Anderson et al.'s (1990) Tortula ruralis; Flora of North America splits out Tortula ruralis var. crinita (= Tortula intermedia) material and recognizes it as the distinct species Syntrichia montana, whereas Anderson et al. lump that material into Tortula ruralis.
