Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the broad treatment of Agrimonia pubescens which includes A. bicknelli as recognized by FNA (vol. 9, 2014), Weakley et al. (2023), and Kartesz (1999). Kartesz (1994) recognizes a narrower concept of A. pubescens, with A. bicknellii as distinct.

Rank Reasons
Agrimonia pubescens is a wide ranging perennial herb occurring across much of the United States, Canada, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and Mexico. Threats to this species include development, invasive species, forest succession, and other threats in some places. With a large range extent, over 570 occurrences, abundant habitat, and no obvious intrinsic vulnerabilities, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Agrimonia pubescens occurs in Canada in Ontario and Quebec, and throughout the central to eastern United States from South Dakota east to Maine and south to Texas and Georgia (FNA 2014, Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2023). Range extent was estimated using herbarium specimen and photo-based observation data collected between 1992 and 2023 (GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records and photo-based observations documented between 1992 and 2023, it is estimated that there are over 570 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, SEINet 2023). It is common on the Piedmont, Interior Low Plateau, Interior Highlands, and in the Mountains of the southeastern United States (Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2023).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, Agrimonia pubescens is potentially threatened by development, invasive species, forest succession, and other threats in some places (MassWildlife's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program 2020). However, their overall impact is likely negligible given species' broad range, large number of occurrences, preference for light disturbance (shading of plants), and affinity for typically abundant habitats, as well as no apparent intrinsic vulnerabilities.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This species grows at edges, openings, or along trails of dry to moist forests and woodlands, often in base-rich soils and in rocky areas, and frequently in areas with light disturbance (MassWildlife's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program 2020, Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2023).
