Range Extent Comments
Western Atlantic; widely distributed, from Florida southward to southern Brazil, including many Caribbean islands; widespread in southern U.S. (Holthuis and Provenzano, Jr. 1970, Holthius 1980). Reported from U.S., Brazil, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Venezuela, and Gulf of Mexico (Fransen 2013), as well as from India (Lara and Wehrtmann 2009). If based on correct identification, Old World occurrences may represent introductions.
Threat Impact Comments
No known widespread threats (www: Encyclopedia of Life). Important in commercial fisheries in some localities.
