Taxonomic Comments
Kartesz (1994) includes A. fendleri var. glabrescens in Arenaria aculeata; Kartesz (1999) moves it to Arenaria kingii. Kartesz (1999) also includes A. pumicola var. californica in A. aculeata. The Kartesz (1999) treament of A. aculeata matches the FNA (Vol. 5, 2005) treatment of Eremogone aculeata (though they differ in their treatment of A. kingii infrataxa). FNA also notes that some California and Oregon plants which have been called A. pumicola var. californica have been accepted as A. aculeata, however, they deserve further study.
