Taxonomic Comments
Porter and Patterson (2015) find a subset of populations from California, Nevada, and Baja California, Mexico that had been identified as Linanthus dichotomus and L. bigelovii to have small flowers like those of L. bigelovii but with seed and stamen features of L. dichotomus. They describe these populations as a small flowered phase of L. dichotomus and name them L. dichotomus ssp. pattersonii. In addition, they find unusual populations in central Arizona previously identified as L. dichotomus to lack diagnostic traits of L. dichotomus and instead describe them as a distinct species, L. maricopensis. This record follows their treatment.
