Pyrrocoma wyethiana is described by Goodrich (2024) as a distinct species from the Strawberry River drainage in Wasatch County, Utah and is distinguished from P. crocea and P. integrifolia (the two species it most closely resembles) by morphology and geographic range.

Found mostly in open stands of Wyethia amplexicaulis, occasionally associated with Helianthella uniflora (Goodrich 2024).
