In the United States, plants are common in extreme southwestern Texas, sporadic in southern New Mexico, and frequent in southern Arizona and California. In Mexico, the species ranges across Baja California and is abundant in the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, and Coahuila. It occurs less freqently in San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, and Durango.
