Taxonomic Comments
Hill's treatment in FNA (2015, vol. 6) recognizes the taxon as a distinct species, Sidalcea virgata. It has been recognized as a subspecies of Sidalcea malviflora (e.g., Kartesz 1994, 1999). Halse (2020) determined it is better treated as a subspecies of S. asprella.
