Mosyakin (2016) concludes that taxa placed in Anemone narcissiflora in Flora of North America Editorial Committee (1997) should be placed in Anemonastrum and elevated to species. Mosyakin (2016) recognizes Anemonastrum sibiricum, (=Anemone narcissiflora var. monantha), Anemonastrum villosissimum (=Anemone narcissiflora var. villosissima), and Anemonastrum zephyrum (=Anemone narcissiflora var. zephyra).
