Taxonomic Comments
Pringle's treatment of Gentianella in FNA (2023, vol. 14) distinguishes Gentianella heterosepala as a species, distinct from G. amarella. Kartesz (1994, 1999) recognized it as a subspecies of G. amarella. Pringle notes that specimens previously identified as G. heterosepala from sites north to Saskatchewan, Idaho, and Montana fall within the calyx lobe character variation of G. amarella ssp. acuta and do not reach the extremes of G. heterosepala.
