Taxonomic Comments
This record is for a narrow treatment of Gentiana parryi that excludes G. calycosa var. asepala, as recognized in Pringle's treatment in FNA (2023, vol. 14). Kartesz (1994, 1999) recognized a broading treatment, including G. calycosa var. asepala in the synonymy of G. parryi (G. calycosa var. asepala (Maguire) C.L. Hitchc. was described as G. calycosa ssp. asepela by Maguire (1942) from Idaho, Nevada, and Utah). According to Pringle, "Gentiana parryi has sometimes been included in G. calycosa and less often in G. affinis, but its larger, conduplicate involucral leaves, which are more or less sharply differentiated from the distal cauline leaves and largely envelop the calyces, give G. parryi an aspect distinctly different from that of either G. calycosa or G. affinis."
