Taxonomic Comments
Shultz and Smith (2018) elevated Orthocarpus tolmiei ssp. holmgreniorum to a species, therefore this record is for Orthocarpus tolmiei in the narrow sense and equivalent to the concept of the typical variety published in FNA (2019).

Rank Reasons
Orthocarpus tolmiei is a hemiparasitic annual herb that is relatively common in the mountains of the western United States in Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. There are many herbarium records and photo-based observations that suggest hundreds of occurrences rangewide. Threats and trends to this species are unknown.
Range Extent Comments
Orthocarpus tolmiei occurs in the western United States in Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. It is common in the mountains of Wyoming and Utah, based on herbarium collections. In Wyoming, it occurs throughout the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, and the southern end of the Teton Range (B. Heidel, pers. comm., 2021). It is reported from numerous counties in Utah including Cache, Carbon, Davis, Duchesne, Millard, Morgan, Rich, Salt Lake, Sanpete, Sevier, Summit, Tooele, Utah, and Weber (Welsh et al. 2015). The range in Idaho appears to be limited to the Caribou Range of southeastern Idaho.
