Acourtia microcephala is limited to southwestern California in the U.S. but its range extends into Baja California. It has been well-collected in California and occurs in a habitat that is not uncommon.

Occurs from southwestern California in south coast ranges to northwest Baja California (Hickman 1993).
Occurrences Comments
The precise number of distinct occurrences is unknown, but as of March 2007 the Consortium of California Herbaria database has 269 accession records for Acourtia microcephala in California; about half of these have been collected since 1980.
Threat Impact Comments
The extent of the range of Acourtia microcephala appears to be in a very highly developed area.

Occurs on shrubby and wooded slopes, especially after fires (Hickman 1993).
