Ecology & Habitat

Description

A yellow cephlothorax with dark lines running along the sides and middle. A yellow to orange abdomen with a pattern of brown to purple markings as illustrated and discussed in Kaston (1972). Female 9-18mm long; male smaller 5.9-9mm long (Kaston, 1972). See Kaston (1972) for illustrations of anatomy and web structure.

Ecology

Webs are supported by trees and shrubs in wooded areas. Webs are divided into two sections, a "hub", a large circular section which serves to snare prey, and a "retreat" where the spider sits and waits above the snare. The two sections are connected by a signal line (Kaston, 1972).
