Rank Reasons
This lichen grows on siliceous rocks, typically in open areas. It occurs from Alaska south through Arizona with scattered occurrences in Texas (and possibly into Mexico) and east to New England and Appalachia, excluding much of the central U.S., and the southern Atlantic and Gulf coastal plains. There is also a disjunct center of distribution in the Ozarks region including parts of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.
