Taxonomic Comments
FNA (2006, vol. 21) does not recognize varieties of Balsamorhiza hookeri and excludes varieties recognized in Kartesz (1994 and 1999) as distinct from the species: B. hookeri var. hispidula is recognized as the distinct species, B. hispidula; B. hookeri var. idahoensis is included in B. macrophylla; B. hookeri var. lagocephala is included in B. lanata. Additionally, the FNA treatment includes B. macrolepis var. platylepis in B. hookeri.
