Castilleja elmeri has a limited geographic range (south-central British Columbia to northwestern Washington) but is quite common where it does occur. It is locally frequent in the Cascade Mountains, south-central British Columbia, and the Wenatchee Mountains, northwestern Washington (Douglas et al. 1991). It occurs in mesic meadows in the montane and subalpine zones (Douglas et al. 1991).
