Rank Reasons
Castilleja plagiotoma is endemic to California and is known from Kern, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and San Luis Obispo counties (CNPS 2001). While C. plagiotoma is considered rare, it is distributed widely enough and found in sufficient numbers that currently the threat of extinction is low (CNPS 2001). C. plagiotoma is found in Great Basin Scrub on alluvial soils, Joshua tree woodland, lower montane coniferous forest, and pinyon and juniper woodland between 300 and 2500 meters in elevation (CNPS 2001). Threats include energy projects, ORVs, roads, and recreational activities.
