Rank Reasons
This lichen is often very common in eastern North America (Ahti 2000). It occurs from Florida to Nova Scotia, west to Texas, Oklahoma, southern Michigan, and Quebec (Ahti 2000). It is also known from Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua (Ahti 2000). It is rare in Central America (Ahti 2000). It grows in open areas, usually in sandy soils and sometimes in association with grasses (Brodo 2000).
