Taxonomic Comments
Three subspecies recognized by Kartesz (1999 checklist), ssp. automixa, concinna, and raichei, all endemic to California. Lewis and Lewis (Clarkia monograph, Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot., 1955) do not recognize any subspecies or varieties in this species. Of the three currently accepted subspecies, two (ssp. automixa and ssp. raichei) are quite rare (according to California Natural Diversity Database, 1999); the remainder of the species is ssp. concinna.
