Includes 2 varieties that occur in North America: C. majalis var. majalis (Introduced from Europe; = C. majalis (Kartesz 1999)) and C. majalis var. montana (Native; = C. majuscula (Kartesz 1999)). According to FNA, a third variety (C. majalis var. keiskei) occurs only in Asia.
