Found in a wide diversity of plant communities in mountains and foothills of inland southern California. Hickman (1993) includes this taxon under Mimulus aurantiacus. Given wide range of habitats and treatment by Hickman this plant may deserve to be lumped into a taxon ranked lower that G3.
Range Extent Comments
Munz (1959) data for Mimulus longiflorus ssp. calycinus lists base of Sierra Nevada in California from Fresno County to Kern County and inner south coastal ranges of San Luis Obispo County to 7500 feet. Also east San Gabriel Mountains to little San Bernadino Mountains, San Jacinto Mountains and mountains of northeastern San Diego County.

Munz (1959) data for Mimulus longiflorus ssp. calycinus indicates rocky places below 4500 feet. Foothill woods, chaparral, yellow pine forest, Joshua tree woods.
