Taxonomic CommentsThis record represents the narrow concept of Eryngium integrifolium following Kees et al. (2024). Kees et al. (2024) split E. integrifolium into five species, based on a morphometric analysis as well as ecological and biogeographic evidence. Taxa recognized by Kees et al. (2024) are: E. altamaha, E. integrifolium (with 3 varieties: var. integrifolium, var. maficolum, var. piedmontanum), E. lanceolatum, E. ludovicianum, and E. mississippiense. This narrow sense of E. integrifolium, following Kees et al. (2024), is restricted to the outer Atlantic and Gulf coastal plains and inland bogs and seeps of the Blue Ridge and Piedmont (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina). In contrast, Kartesz (1994) and FNA (vol. 13, 2024) treat Eryngium integrifolium in a broader sense that extends to plants in Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
