Taxonomic Comments
This species was previously treated as a variety or subspecies of G. dryopteris and is a parent of the hybrid Gymnocarpium × brittonianum (FNA 1993, vol. 2). The generic placement of this taxon, in Gymnocarpium, is in accordance with the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group I (2016).
