Taxonomic Comments
Davydov et al. (2017) found no phylogenetic basis for maintaining Lasallia as a separate genus from Umbilicaria, and propose a classification of Umbilicariaceae s.str. with eight subgenera in the only genus Umbilicaria.

This lichen species is common on rock faces, boulder and rock ledges. It occurs from the upper Great Lakes and New England southward in the mountains and foothills to Georgia and Alabama (Flenniken 1999).
