Taxonomic CommentsEsslinger (2016) recognizes three distinct subspecies in Lecidea atrobrunnea (ssp. atrobrunnea, deplanaica, and planaica). Esslinger (2018) elevates L. atrobrunnea ssp. deplanaica (= L. deplanaica) to full species level.
